HL2House

I have long been a fan of the first-person-shooter genre of videogames, and of Valve Software's Half-Life in particular. When Valve released the SDK for their new Source engine (Half-Life 2), I couldn't wait to start modeling, mapping, and coding. As a way to teach myself a little about the capabilities of the engine, and the process of creating and importing models, I started this project.
The goal was to create a highly detailed and accurate replica of my living room. I started by taking some measurements of the room and its furniture, and created its basic shape in Hammer (Valve's map editor). I then took some pictures of the ceiling, walls, floor, and furniture etc. and made textures in Photoshop. Next I modeled and textured all the furniture in Softimage XSI, and imported them into the map. Finally, I added some game entities to bring the room to life - dynamic lights, physics on the furniture, fire in the fireplace, and sounds.
